Veg Chowmein is a Chinese stir-fried noodle that is very popular in every restaurant and in street stalls in Nepal or all over the world. It is usually made with lots of shredded cabbage, carrots, onions, mushrooms, etc. that vary from place to place.
If you are around Kathmandu valley, do visit local eateries or restaurants nearby; it will be difficult to find a single place that doesn’t serve chow mein or momo. Undoubtedly chow mein and the momo is considered as the all-time favorite Nepalese snacks. However chowmein is well-known for Chinese food but you can find numerous restaurants that serves varieties of noodles.
Ingredients for Veg Chowmein
- 250 g dried or egg noodles
- 3 tablespoon oil
- Finely shredded cabbage and carrots
- Chopped onions and spring onions
- Broccoli
- 1 finely chopped capsicum
- 2-3 green chili
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- Chili powder (as per your preference)
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tablespoon ajinomoto(tasting powder)
- Chopped coriander
How to make vegetarian/veg chowmein
Boiling Process:
1: First of all, let’s boil the noodle. Take a wider pot and boil 1.5 liters of water( for one packet)
2: Add two tablespoon of cooking oil so that noodles won’t get sticky
3: Add one packet of noodle and let it boil for 5 minutes, also stir it properly throughout the process
4. Now put the noodle in a strainer for 4-5 minutes to separate all leftover water from it
5. After this add some cooking oil over the noodle and stir it well
6. Now it’s ready to fry
Frying Process:
1: Take a wider frying pan and heat up 3 teaspoon oil
2: Add some onions and green chili’s, then mix it thoroughly
3: Then add cabbage, carrots, broccoli and capsicum altogether
4: Add noodles and stir it properly
5: Add some salt and chili powder along with a pinch of ajinomoto
6: Add 2-3 tbsp of soy sauce and mix everything
7: Finally add some coriander on top
8: Also add some tomato sauce and lime juice for more flavors (optional)
9: And it’s ready to serve 🙂
