Matar Paneer is a vegetarian curry famous especially in North India and also in Nepal. It is made with fresh peas and paneer in a tomato gravy with varieties of spices. However, you can also go for frozen peas if available.

Ingredients for Matar Paneer
- 200 g diced Paneer
- 1 bowl peas (mattarkosha) frozen or fresh
- 1 cup yogurt
- 5 tablespoon oil
- 3 chopped tomatoes
- 1 chopped onion
- Ginger-garlic finely chopped
- 1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder
- Red chili powder (as per your preference)
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin and coriander seed
- Garam Masala (2 cloves, 2 cinnamon, 2 cardamoms, 4-5 black pepper, 2 bay leaves or bay leaf)
- Chopped coriander
Let’s make it
1: Heat 4-5 tbsp of oil in a pan and fry some cumin and coriander seed along with all mentioned garam masala and chopped ginger-garlic till it gets light brown
2: Add onions and 1 tbsp of turmeric on it, stir it properly
3: Add chopped tomatoes and then close the lid and let it cook in medium flame for 5 minutes
4: Grind the paste in a mixture for a gravy
5: Take it out in a pan and add some water and let it cook in medium flame
6: Add peas in it and then mix it properly
7: Then you can directly add finely diced paneer or for 3-4 minutes you can fry the paneer separately and then add it to the gravy
8: Add red chili powder and salt to taste
9: Add yogurt and then mix it properly and let it cook for 4-5 minutes
10: Garish with chopped coriander on top
11: And it’s ready to serve 🙂
